MADINAH ARABIC SERIES
SEMESTER 2: BOOK 2
Overview
The Madinah Arabic Series for English-speaking students is designed to teach Quranic and traditional Arabic. Originally, this series was developed to be taught at the Arabic Institute of the Islamic University of Al Madinah.
This term, we are continuing our reading with Book Two of the series, building on the foundational knowledge established in Book One.
-
The Madinah Arabic Series for English speaking students is designed to teach Quranic and traditional Arabic. Originally this series was developed to be taught at the Arabic Institute of the Islamic University of Al Madinah.
Authored by Dr. Faa Abdur Rahim Rahimahullah, who was the in his life time the Director of the Translation Centre of the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex (The Madinah Quran Printing Press) and he was a former Professor of Arabic at the Islamic University of Madinah (may Allah have mercy on him).
The series imparts classical Arabic knowledge through applied grammar, with each lesson featuring conversations that illustrate distinctive language patterns and exercises to reinforce understanding.
Vocabulary coverage ranges from classical and Qur'anic Arabic to modern Arabic, making it versatile for various fields of study.
The Madinah Arabic Series is recognised worldwide for its step-by-step approach, starting from basic grammar and conversation, and gradually advancing to more complex language structures.
-
Originally, the Madinah Arabic Series was published in four volumes in Al Madinah. When translated into English, it was condensed into three books.
However, Goodword Publications has recently released an eight-volume edition, which is the version we will follow in this course.
The 8-volume edition of the Madinah Arabic Series is preferable because it breaks the text into smaller, manageable sections, making it easier to follow and absorb.
This structured approach allows for progressive learning, ensuring a solid grasp of Arabic grammar and vocabulary without overwhelming students.
-
The Madinah Arabic Series takes a minimum of 8 semesters to complete.
This equals at least 2 years of study.
We follow the 8-volume edition for better structured learning.
-
The true answer is not really—this course focuses primarily on understanding written Arabic, including grammar, sentence structures, and vocabulary building.
While it will certainly help in developing a strong foundation in the Arabic Language, it is not designed to teach conversational Arabic like the Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk series.
Instead, the Madinah Arabic Series is grammar-heavy, making it ideal for those who want to read and understand Arabic texts, particularly classical and Quranic Arabic.
-
Our students have completed Book One of the Madinah Arabic Series.
This eight week term, we are starting Book Two from the eight-book series.
Book Two builds on the foundation of Book One with more advanced grammar and expanded vocabulary.
Students will further develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills.
The first weekend will be a refresher on the main topics covered in book 1.
-
Students must have completed Book One with us at The Sunnah Hub.
If not, they must pass an entry exam with a score above 80%.
-
The entry exam covers most of the content from the first term. It also includes key vocabulary from Book One and tests the grammatical rules learned, such as:
The foundations of verbal sentences – Fi‘l (verb) and Fā‘il (subject).
The foundations of nominal sentences – Mubtada (subject) and Khabar (predicate).
And more.
You can access the exam here: Entry Exam Link.
- The exam requires around 60 minutes to complete. -
